Australia Day Weekend 2024

Where: Boreen Point Campground

The Esplanade, Boreen Point

Date: Thursday 25th January to Monday 28th January

(however, members can go earlier and leave later, just need to be booked in)

Boreen Point Campground is on Lake Cootharaba and about 19klms north-east of Pomona. Lake Cootharaba is Queensland's biggest natural saltwater lake. The lake is 10km long 5km wide by 1.5m deep and is the gateway to Australia's only everglades system. The area is perfect for nature lovers and families, with this shallow lake making it a safe place to swim, kayak and play. From the mouth of the Noosa River to Lake Cootharaba, you can catch Mangrove Jack, Tailor, Bream, Trevally, Whiting and Flathead. To entice these fish, try using fly, soft body, hard body, lures or live bait.

Whilst all available powered sites have been snapped up in response to the email sent previously, there are still plenty of unpowered sites and some are on the waterfront.

Facilities include an amenity block with toilets & hot showers, a camp kitchen which has a BBQ, drinking water but not at individual sites and dump point.

Powered sites - $45/night Unpowered sites - $39/night. Deposit required, Balance on arrival.

Activities over the weekend include –

* Friday (Australia Day) morning – Show n Shine at Apollonian Hotel (up the hill from the campground)

* Saturday morning – Pomona Markets

* Saturday lunchtime – The Silent Movies at The Majestic Theatre in Pomona (take your own nibbles, bar open for drinks)

* Sunday lunchtime – Lunch at the Apollonian Hotel

* Swimming, kayaking/canoeing, fishing, relaxing

As we get closer to Australia Day, some more activities could be on the agenda.

If you haven’t booked in as yet, please contact Lenore by email or call 0417 044 452 or Carolyn by email or call 0428 143 146 to make a booking or express interest in joining in the Australia Day celebrations.
